The Kinect for Xbox One is a significant evolution of the technology developed during the previous generation. It boasts a 3x improvement in sensing accuracy from upgraded color and depth cameras and a new depth sensor based on time of flight measurement.

I assisted with the early incubation phase of this project which involved prototyping new concepts, experimenting with different depth sensing technologies, and research in machine learning and computer vision for improved approaches to human recognition and skeletal tracking. I worked with a number of different camera vendors including PrimeSense, 3DV, and Canesta, authored and responded to RFPs, and was heavily involved in early architecture and concept work.

Much of this effort laid the groundwork for future mixed reality and tracking projects including HoloLens. For more information about my work in this area check out my patents page.
